Many budget middle weight bikes still come with damper rod forks. This design is cheap to make but harks back many decades. Performance is always a compromise, as there is no separation of high & low speed damping. This can give harshness over rough surfaces or a mushy feel on smooth roads. Over-soft springs common on many bikes plus a lack of adjustability can add to the poor performance.

YSS have an economic and simple to fit solution in the form of their Fork Upgrade Kits, that provide many of the advantages of more expensive cartridge-type forks. The YSS Upgrade kits will provide customers with real performance improvements for their bike. The kits consist of YSS Progressive Fork Springs, YSS Fork Valves & YSS Fork Caps with preload adjustment. Replacement fork spacers are also supplied where needed.

Progressive fork springs are ideal for road use, where surfaces, speeds & loads can vary widely. The progressive winding allows comfort on smooth roads and greater resistance to bottoming out on harsh bumps and more severe braking, greatly improving handling & safety. These work in unison with the YSS Fork Valves, that provide differing damping characteristics depending on the speed of the fork compression. This enables suspension to retain control on smooth roads but also respond quickly enough when hitting a large bump at speed. Finally, YSS Fork Caps with adjustable preload allow the correct fork sag to be set according to rider & load. This enables the suspension to operate in its optimum range of travel and aids handling by preserving the correct suspension geometry.

The kits are simple to fit, as they do not require full disassembly of the fork legs. With added control, superior comfort and the facility to adjust, they provide the best solution to improving suspension ability on basic forks. They’re available for many popular bikes such as many Royal Enfields & Triumphs, CB/CBR500s, Bonnevilles, MT07s plus scooters like Forza, Xmax & C400.
